Dr John Amodeo writing for psychcentral.com  looks at relationships in this article. He asks us; have you ever loved someone but didn’t feel relaxed inside when you’re with them?

The answer could quite easily be yes.  I see a number of clients in my practice who come to talk about the uncertainty that this brings to their relationship and to their life.

Relationship and Emotional Safety

When we feel emotionally safe it means we feel relaxed enough internally to let down our guard. We are safe enough to let down our defences and be ourselves. Dr Amodeo writes about how to be ourselves and how to be more truthful in a relationship.  I love the quote that he uses later on in his article from the book Undefended Love:

“Finding intimacy begins with discovering ourselves…We have to be visible before we can be seen.

We have to be available before our hearts can be affected.

And we have to be present before we can be intimate.”
